Former Jihadi Leader Ustad Sayaf Condemns Taliban Leader’s Endorsement of Suicide Attacks
12 April 2024
In response to recent remarks made by Hebatullah Akhundzadeh, leader of the Taliban, regarding the endorsement of suicide bombings, former Jihadi leader Abdrab Rasoul Sayaf has unequivocally stated that suicide runs contrary to the principles of “the religion of God and His Messenger.
In a X post, Mr. Sayyaf directed a message to the Taliban leader, expressing “May God destroy you, do not persecute Islam.” Further, this prominent jihadist leader urged Hebatullah Akhundzadeh to refrain from engaging in “unlawful acts” under the guise of Sharia law and cautioned against the promotion of suicidal actions.
These strong sentiments come in the wake of remarks by the Taliban leader during an Eid prayer in Kandahar, where he urged Taliban suicide bombers to prepare for “combat.” However, the Taliban’s spokesperson has countered these interpretations, asserting that Akhundzadeh’s intent was to draw parallels between resistance and capitulation in the face of such assaults.
