Pakistan’s Military Accuses TTP of Utilizing Afghan Territory for Operations Against Pakistan

08 May 2024

The Pakistani military has renewed its accusations against the Taliban for allegedly providing safe havens to militants from Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) within Afghanistan, facilitating their engagement in hostile actions against the Pakistani state.

In a press briefing held today, Sharif Ahmed Chaudhry, the spokesperson for the Pakistani Armed Forces, articulated, “TTP militants are launching operations within Pakistan from Afghan soil.”

Despite the Taliban’s continuous declarations of their non-tolerance policy towards terrorist factions operating against any nation, particularly neighboring states, the Pakistani military spokesperson underscored the existence of tangible proof that TTP militants are being sheltered in Afghanistan.

Chaudhry pointed out that the origins of recent acts of terrorism can be traced back to individuals within Afghanistan, noting, “It seems the commitments made by the Taliban in the Doha agreement remain unfulfilled.”

He affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to relentlessly combat terrorists and their enablers.

A high-ranking official from the Pakistani government highlighted the involvement of a terrorist named Habibullah, residing in Spin Boldak, Afghanistan, in orchestrating an assault in North Waziristan.

Moreover, investigations into an attack on March 20 targeting the Gwadar Port Authority revealed that the planning occurred in Afghanistan, with both the attackers and their supporters situated there. It was noted that one of the suicide bombers held Afghan nationality.

The military also stated that there are efforts underway to destabilize peace in the regions of Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Following an assault on a military post in North Waziristan on March 16, “Pakistani forces engaged terrorist encampments across the Afghan border,” Chaudhry disclosed.

He attributed the recent surge in terrorism within Pakistan to the TTP receiving support and armaments from Afghanistan.

In light of the policy to repatriate undocumented immigrants in Pakistan, Chaudhry remarked on its significance for the nation, highlighting that millions of Afghan nationals continue to reside within Pakistani boundaries.

He emphatically concluded, “Pakistan will not harbor terrorists.”

Chaudhry criticized the involvement of Afghan nationals in terrorist activities against Pakistan as a deviation from the Taliban’s commitments under the Doha agreement with the United States.
