Russian Authorities Contemplate Delisting Taliban as a Designated Terrorist Entity
01 April 2024
Russia is deliberating the potential removal of the Taliban from its list of designated terrorist organizations, as per statements provided by the Russia Foreign Ministry to TASS. The decision-making process involves comprehensive assessments by pertinent government bodies, including the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Justice. Ultimately, the final determination rests with the highest echelons of Russia’s political leadership. Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special presidential representative for Afghanistan and Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Second Asia Department, disclosed to TASS earlier that a delegation from the Taliban, the current governing entity in Afghanistan, has been extended an invitation to participate in the Russia-Islamic World: Kazan Forum scheduled for May. This forthcoming international economic forum is slated to take place in Kazan from May 14 to May 19.
