Al-Farabi National University of Kazakhstan is one of the most prestigious universities in the region. The National University of Kazakhstan, named after the country’s famous philosopher and the first and most famous political philosopher of the Islamic world, Abu Nasr al-Farabi, was founded in 1934.

The university is located in Almaty, the largest and the first university in Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan’s Al-Farabi National University, which initially included only the education department, is now Kazakhstan’s largest university, with about 20,000 students, including national and international students.

The university currently has 14 faculties and 180 majors in undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees. The results of the global ranking of universities in the world are a verification of the success of the promotion of the National Al-Farabi University of Kazakhstan. For example, according to the QS World University Ranking, Al-Farabi University ranked 600th in 2009, 501st in 2010, 400th in 2011, 390th in 2012, 305th in 2014, and included in the list of 300 most prestigious universities in the world is ranked 220th on 2019 and 165th on 2020 in the world.

Kazakhstan’s Al Farabi National University was highly rated according to the results of an independent evaluation conducted by the prestigious international rating agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and was the first and only university in the Central Asian region to have “five-star” excellence in the “system”. The audit conducted by QS UK evaluates universities into four main groups, which include 12 subgroups, consisting of more than 50 indicators that reflect a wide range of university activities and compliance with high international standards.

Dedicating QS “Five Stars” to Excellence conveys that Al Farabi KazNU has a high international reputation and demonstrates leadership positions in the global academic and educational environment. Stars highlight the strengths of the university, highlight the benefits, and guide partners, international education professionals, national and international applicants when choosing a university to study.

The QS Stars system provides in-depth evaluation with detailed descriptions and extensive data involvement. Such an audit allows the university to be evaluated more broadly and accurately than the annual ranking framework. By receiving the QS “Five stars”, the university has acquired another tool to upgrade its educational and research programs and thus increase its competitiveness.

To mention, that there is no university other than Al Farabi KazNU in Central Asia and Kazakhstan that has a “five-star” QS.

Only 62 universities in the world have QS “5 stars”, including Harvard University, Oxford University, Cambridge University, University of Chicago, Princeton University, Columbia University, which are in the top 5, 10, and 20 internationals in the world.

Kazakhstan’s Al Farabi National University has improved its performance and strengthened its position according to the results of the “QS World University Ranking by 2021”, where more than 1,200 universities are ranked in five different subject areas. Compared to last year, KazNU significantly improved its performance in “Arts and Human science” from 277 to 156 and in “Social Science and Management” from 351 to 257.

KazNU’s “Modern Linguistics” specialty performed well, ranking 52nd among the world’s best universities. In particular, KazNU excels in specialties such as English Language and Literature (150-101), Linguistics and Law (151-200), Economics and Econometrics (251-300). Has shown. , “Mathematics” (ranks 301-350), “Physics and Astronomy” (ranks 501-550).

For the first time, the specialties of “History” (top 151-200), “Business and Management” (rank 401-450), “Computer Science and Information Systems” (rank 501-550), and “Chemistry” (551) – (600) were included in this ranking.

The QS World University ranking method is based on four key indicators: scientific reputation, reputation among employers, citation of scientific articles, and the Hirsch index. The ranking is set in the perspective of more than 95,000 education experts, 45,000 experts as well as statistics from the Scopus database.

The curriculum of the Al Farabi National University of Kazakhstan holds the top positions in all these specialties in the national rankings among the universities of Kazakhstan. On the path to reach an excellent research university, KazNU is successfully advancing in the global ranking and the subject of world universities. Thus, in 2020, according to the results of the QS global ranking, Kazakhstan’s leading university was ranked 165th in the list of the best universities in the world. In QS “WUR by Subject”, more than 1,200 universities in the world were ranked in five subject areas. Compared to last year, KazNU has significantly improved its performance in the specialty “Arts and Human science”, from 339 to 277 places, and in “Science and Social Management” – 351 places.

In the field of “Modern Linguistics”, this university is ranked in the top 51-100 in the world, in the top 250-220 in “Linguistics” and in “English Language and Literature” and “Law”. 251-300. For the first time, the following specializations are included in this ranking – “Mathematics” (top 351-400), “Economics and Econometrics” (451-500), and “Physics and Astronomy” (551-600).

To mention, KazNU, by becoming a world-class research university, is successfully advancing in the global rankings. Thus, in 2019, according to the results of the QS global ranking, Kazakhstan’s leading university ranked 207th in the list of the world’s best HEIs. From the CIS countries, this group included only Lomonosov Moscow State University and Al-Farabi KazNU.

Global recognition of the University is accompanied by the expansion of international cooperation and the development of globalization, as well as the active work of KazNU as the global center of the United Nations “Scientific Impact” program on sustainable development.

The Al-Farabi National University of Kazakhstan is one of the most prestigious universities in the region. The university has extensive cooperation with the Afghan Ministry of High Education, especially in terms of the capacity building of Afghan universities. The university offers scholarships to hundreds of Afghan students who have traveled to Kazakhstan on scholarships, many of whom are members of the academic staff of Afghan universities

Faculty of Education Preparation of the University, Kazakhstan National Al-Farabi University in 2011 based on the Faculty of education was established in 1985 before the University of Education for international students.

The history of this faculty is a part of the 85-year history of Al-Farabi University. To mention, Kazakhstan National Al-Farabi University has established strong relations in the field of education with more than 100 countries.

The university is currently expanding its international relations and reliably entering the European education court. The graduates of this faculty continue to keep their relations with professors and close relations are building up among them. International students are carrying good memories from this university and count the time they have spent as a special period of their lives.

Since 2001, more than 2,000 students from a group of expatriate or diaspora Kazak (Diaspora) students have been trained to attend Kazakhstan’s higher education institutions.

Since the beginning of 2010, students who came from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, to study at higher education institutions and colleges in the Republic of Kazakhstan, have studied the language of Kazakh and Russian in this same university.

Talented international students can research contemporary science issues in Kazakh and Russian languages under the guidance of outstanding and qualified professors and professors.
