Fawzia Koofi Scheduled to Address the Annual Nobel Peace Summit

09 May 2024

Fawzia Koofi, esteemed leader of the Movement for Change Party and former member of the Afghan House of Representatives, is slated to address the esteemed audience at the annual Nobel Peace Summit.

Expressing her enthusiasm, Koofi stated on the social media platform X, “It is with great pleasure that I announce my participation as a speaker at the Nobel Peace Summit in Oslo come September.” She elaborated, “In today’s global landscape, the plight of women and their rights are manipulated as leverage for power acquisition. The grim reality is that an increasing number of women and children are casualties in conflicts. It is imperative that we consolidate our efforts against the ongoing subjugation of women.”

The Nobel Peace Center, on Wednesday, May 8, disclosed that this year’s summit is scheduled for September 5. The Center further elucidated that the summit serves as a confluence for laureates, scholars, policy formulators, and activists to deliberate on prevailing issues and forge potential solutions.

The newsletter further revealed that the summit intends to cast a spotlight on the alarming regression in women’s rights globally and scrutinize effective strategies to mitigate these challenges.

It is noteworthy to mention that Fawzia Koofi was the recipient of the prestigious Human Rights Prize awarded by the Spanish Bar Council in 2022.

The resurgence of the Taliban’s authority in Afghanistan has seen women subjected to stringent impositions, significantly curtailing their freedoms.
