Iranian Ambassador Urges Formation of Inclusive Government in Afghanistan

27 May 2024

Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Iran’s ambassador and special representative to Afghanistan, has reiterated the critical need for establishing an inclusive government in Afghanistan.

Qomi noted that while Iran engages with the Taliban, it provides them with guidance. Iranian officials have consistently stressed the importance of forming an inclusive government in Afghanistan.

During a meeting with Afghan migrants in Iran on May 26, Qomi emphasized that “Afghanistan is the shared home of all Afghans, and adhering to the principles of the Bonn Agreement is essential for progress.”

In the same meeting, Qomi accused the United States of interfering in Afghan affairs and claimed that ISIS is a project orchestrated by Washington.

Despite international calls for an inclusive government in Afghanistan, the Taliban have resisted, asserting that their current regime is already inclusive.

This situation unfolds amid a severe humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, with neighboring countries like Iran and Pakistan expelling large numbers of Afghan migrants. The ongoing crisis underscores the urgent need for an inclusive government to address Afghanistan’s significant challenges.
